Friday was Haylee’s last day on earth. Nicole flew home from North Dakota to be with her to the end. Haylee and Nicole. Nicole and Haylee. They had an amazing connection. An intense connection. In fact, everything about Haylee was intense. Her energy. Her fierceness. Her love for Nicole. Especially her love for Nicole. And Nicole’s for her. A love that will transcend the boundaries of mortal life and death. A friendship that will last forever.
… sometimes require perseverance and fortitude. This post was originally titled “Happy New Year” because Steve and I are declaring today our personal New Year for 2006. The traditional one was pretty much a lost cause with rain, illness and a series of other trials, one hot on the heels of another. It was getting us down.
So yesterday we celebrated a New Year’s Eve of sorts and awoke this morning committed to making some changes in life. Starting with a walk before Steve left for work. The sky was dry as we drank coffee and showered. Light rain began as we dressed to go out. The heavens opened as we walked out the door. My gortex boots (always dry before) filled with water. We walked anyway and came home soggy but smug. To overflowing gutters and the bedroom roof leaking. Again. Still.
Okay. Breathe deep. Nobody said this will be easy. We will prevail.
Snow, that is! From 70 degrees to snowfall within a week … who’d a thunk it? It was too wet too stick but the flakes were huge this morning. They’re saying it could happen again tonight at even lower elevations. Cross your fingers for me…
Sophie and I rolled down the hill together. I got snow down my pants, up my shirt … everywhere. I haven’t giggled that much (or felt that dizzy) in I can’t remember when!
